Building Underpass Greenway- is a design approach to environmental justice issues in the Hunts Point neighborhood against poor air quality, stormwater management/flooding, noise pollution and unsafe pedestrian crossings. The BUG seeks to integrate green infrastructure to reverse the urban heat island effect and manage stormwater from the Bruckner Expressway Overpass while improving air quality.

This project is in partnership with THE POINT CDC and NYU'S Applied Global Public Health Initiatives Climate Change Task Force and Leaf Island and promotes the idea of the "leaf island effect" as a cooling mechanism versus the urban heat island effect.
