Phycoremediation

Phycoremediation: Punta Catalina is a conceptural research paper proposing the use of micro-algae for the remediation of wastewater and waste heat that is produced as waste products in the Punta Catalina Thermo-electric Power Plant. This process known as phycoremediation uses the otherwise waste products to grow micro-algae which can in turn be used to produce other products such as biodiesel or bio-plastics.

Phycoremediation is proposed in order to establish sustainable design principals into the otherwise harmful industrial process. This kind of investigation is known as industrial ecology.
